This Toast Titanium 5.0.1 Updater makes it possible to burn CDs with Roxio Toast Titanium, Apple iTunes, and Apple Disc Burner using the Toast system extensions. This updater replaces the Toast extensions with versions which are compatible with iTunes and Disc Burner. It also moves two iTunes/Disc Burner extensions, “USB Authoring Support” and “FireWire Authoring Support”, into the “Extensions (Disabled)” folder. All other iTunes and Disc Burner extensions including “Authoring Support” are left untouched and should remain in the Extensions folder. After restart, Toast will be able to burn CDs and so will iTunes and Disc Burner, which now use the Toast extensions. This updater allows iTunes and Disc Burner to access and burn CDs on certain CD recorders which were not supported by the Apple extensions. Mac OS 9.1 is required for this additional iTunes and Disc Burner functionality.
NOTE: If you install iTunes or Disc Burner (or update them) after you install the Toast Titanium 5.0.1 Updater, use Extensions Manager to disable “USB Authoring Support” and “FireWire Authoring Support”.
Built-in CD-RW Drives
Even though your CD-RW drive is your only CD drive, you can use Copy format to copy data or audio CDs, providing you have sufficient hard disk space. Toast will cache the CD to the hard disk, then eject the original CD and prompt you to insert a blank CD. Using Check Speed or Simulation is unnecessary in this case, since during the burn, the hard disk is fast enough for the maximum recording speed. Another option is to Save as Disc Image first.
SuperDrive Support
This updater makes it possible to burn DVDs on the Apple SuperDrive.
Known Issues
When launching Toast Titanium for the first time, the CD Key dialog box requires an entry in both the Name and Company fields. If there is no company, entering an option-space will allow you to leave the field blank.
If your display is 640 x 480 and your CD Recorder model is not visible at the bottom of the Toast window, click the resize box near the upper right corner of the window or manually resize the window to fit on your screen. Toast will remember its window size and position the next time it is opened.
If file sharing is on and you mount an unlocked disc image which has little or no free space on it, an error message will appear saying that file sharing cannot be enabled. You can turn off file sharing or ignore the error message.
Video CDs cannot be verified. When you use Copy format to copy a Video CD, only the first track (containing layout information) will be verified.
A Note About Mac OS X Support
Roxio is dedicated to the Macintosh market and will provide support for Apple’s new operating system, Mac OS X, after a complete version is released. The 10.0 version released on March 24, 2001 was shipped with an incomplete I/O Kit. The I/O Kit is needed by software products like Roxio Toast and Dantz Retrospect to access CD recorders and other data storage devices. A free update for Toast Titanium to provide Mac OS X support will be posted to Roxio’s web site (http://www.roxio.com) shortly after a complete version of Mac OS X is released.
